Un esbozo al vínculo de Anna Melina con la música y Queen en sus propias palabras .

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico) : ¿Cómo fue tu acercamiento a la música, qué instrumentos tocas y por qué los elegiste?

AM (Anna Melina): Empecé a cantar acompañando a Freddie cuando lo escuchaba en el reproductor de MP3. Quería saber cómo se escucharía solo mi voz sin a de Freddie, y empecé a grabarla en la computadora. Me decidí por el piano pues mi abuelita tenía uno muy antiguo , y siempre que la visitaba me gustaba tocar algunas piezas.

QFCM: ¿Quiénes son tus influencias?

AM: Queen, Queen, Queen, e intérpretes como Kari Bremnes…

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando escuchas la palabra “Queen”?

AM: …Mmmm… para ser honesta… sólo una persona: Freddie Mercury :-)

QFCM: ¿Cómo y cuándo conociste a Queen?

AM: Creo que cuando tenía 7 años… Un amigo de mi hermano era fan de Queen ,él tenía posters del grupo en su recámara, y recuerdo que tocaba algunas canciones de Queen. Aunque yo todavía no era aficionada a la música, me impresionó el sonido.

QFCM: ¿Qué te impacta de Queen y por qué?

AM: Lo que más admiro es la fuerza y la energía positiva de la interpetación y presencia escénica de Freddie Mercury . Su sentido del humor y actitud cariñosa hacia la música y sus fans…Como podrán ver, ¡¡¡soy una VERDADERA FAN!!! :-)

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu disco favorito de Queen?

AM: Mmm…no es fácil decir cuál. Depende de mi estado de ánimo…Cuando estoy muy triste me gusta mucho el álbum “Innuendo”. Pero cuando mi ánimo es neutral, me gusta “News of the World” , por ejemplo… Otras veces , me encanta escuchar “Hot Space”….

QFCM: ¿Tienes un tema preferido de Queen? , ¿cuál?.

AM: …Bueno, puede decirse que me sucede lo mismo que con los discos…Pero indiscutiblemente la obra maestra: “Bohemian Rhapsody”… Aunque también me gustan temas como “Who needs you”, “Dreamer’s Ball”, o “Don’t try suicide”, ¡¡¡son magníficos!!! :-)

QFCM: Desde tu punto de vista como músico ¿qué tema consideras más complejo ?

AM: Ohhh. ¡ “Who wants to live forever”! Porque es el tema que grabé grabé recientemente, y porque todo parce flotar en él. Últimamente no puedo encontrar las notas correctas…Increíble…Pero podría decirse que las canciones de sus inicios son un poco más difíciles de interpetar , porque por lo general tienen muy pocas pausas para respirar…En cuanto a las melodías: Killer Queen, Teo Toriatte, de difícil interpretación. Pero maravillosas. Y si logra, es una de las mejores experiencias en la vida, es decir, al menos al momento de interpretarlas… Es fabuloso, ¡y muy divertido!

QFCM: ¿Tu concierto favorito?

AM: Sólo conozco algunos (Montreal, Live at the Bowl, y Wembley). Siento a Freddie un poco agresivo en el de Live at the Bowl. Quizá porque leí en el libro de Peter Freestone, que había tenido problemas serios con su pareja la noche previa al concierto... No sé…Cuando tengo ganas de divertirme me gusta mucho el de Montreal y la forma genial en que bromea con el público. El de Wembley, me parece un poco triste por lo que dicen antes de “Who wants to live forever”…Mmmm.

QFCM: ¿Y video?

AM: Ja, ja, ja…. Sé que a muchos no les gusta, pero a mi me encanta “I want to break free”. También me agradan We will rock you, y “Las palabras de Amor” :-)

QFCM: En caso de haber leído algún libro de Queen, ¿cuál te ha asombrado y por qué?

AM: Sin duda el que Peter Freestone escribió sobre Freddie Mercury. Es tan personal e íntimo, y a la vez muestra tanto respeto y cariño.

QFCM: ¿Qué te motivó a tocar covers de Queen y cuándo empezaste a hacerlo?

AM: Cuando vi en YouTubela interpretación de “Bohemian Rhapsody” en el concierto Live Aid … En ese momento empezó mi admiración por Freddie Mercury y Queen, y desde ese momento sólo quiero cantar esos temas. ¡Tienen tanta energía positiva! :-) ¡Una maravilla!

QFCM: ¿Qué opinas de Freddie Mercury?

AM: Creo que en cierto sentido era una especie de héroe, pues superó muchas dificultades en su vida , y además le dejó a la gente cosas positivas que aprendió al vivir su vida de forma auténtica y con mucho amor en su corazón.

QFCM: ¿Cuál crees que fue su legado al mundo de la música?

AM: “Bohemian Rhapsody” J. Y el LP “Barcelona” , esto es, el hacer las cosas lo mejor posible, incluso aquello que la gente pensó que no funcionaría.

QFCM: ¿Qué tema te hubiera gustado tocar con él?, ¿y con Queen?

AM: Imagínense, tocar con Freddie Mercury… Tal vez Love of my life, o Don’t try suicide.

QFCM: Desde el punto de vista de un músico ¿cuál es la aportación de John, Roger y Brian?

AM: John Deacon: Hizo muchas canciones extraordinarias como “I want to break free” o “Who needs you”… supo retirarse de la música en el momento preciso. Y su gran personalidad, creo.

Roger Taylor: Tiene una forma de tocar la batería y hace unos coros magistrales.

Brian May: Me encanta cómo toca la guitarra. Además le aporta cierto toque intelectual y académico al grupo de rock. :-)

QFCM: ¿Qué hace a Queen diferente de otros grupos desde el punto de vista musical?

AM: Al igual que muchos otros grupos lograron una gran complejidad en su música, pero a diferencia de ellos, durante el proceso creativo en lugar de pensar que algún tema ya era perfecto , ellos siempre intentaron seguir trabajando en él hasta mejorarlo todavía más…Y lo más importante es que siempre se percibe mucha energía positiva en los temas de Queen…En mi opinión eso es lo mejor de su música.

QFCM: ¿Cuáles son tus grupos extranjeros tributo a Queen preferidos?

AM: No tengo ninguno, de hecho lo que más disfruto es escuchar que interpreten la música de Queen con su propio estilo, pues es una forma de rendirle homenaje a la obra de estos notables artistas. Me da tristeza ver o escuchar a grupos que traten de imitarlos, es obvio que no son ellos…Parece como si no quisieran aceptar que Queen ya no existe…

QFCM: En tu opinión ¿cuál es el mejor cover a un tema de Queen?

AM: Oh…. Es difícil responder. Me gustan muchas versiones a Bohemian Rhapsody…

QFCM: Si no lo has hecho ya, ¿qué tema de Queen aún sueñas interpretar?

AM: Oh, muchos, como por ejemplo The Millionaire Waltz, Bijou, Keep Yourself Alive…

QFCM: Si hubieras conocido a Freddie , ¿que le hubieras dicho?

AM: Creo que hubiera preferido escucharlo en lugar de hablarle. Pero si hubiera tenido la oportunidad de dirigirle algunas palabras, le hubiera dicho gracias.

QFCM: Si pudieras conocer a Brian, Roger y John, ¿qué le dirías a cada uno de ellos?

AM: Creo que lo mismo que a Freddie Mercury. Gracias.

QFCM: Si pudieras ver a Queen en vivo ¿cuál sería el set list ideal?

AM: Todo el material de sus inicios, y los temas que no se escuchan en la radio…

QFCM: ¿Qué material te gustaría que Queen lanzara?

AM: Para ser honesta, me gustaría que hicieran algo como lo que se lanza de forma no oficial, ¡es como si estuvieras en uno de sus conciertos!

QFCM: ¿Por qué crees que la música de Queen es tan popular ahora?

AM: Creo que se debe a que su música tiene una energía excepcional. Y esta energía es muy importante en estos tiempos tan intensos.

QFCM: ¿Cómo ves la música de Queen dentro de 10 años?

AM: Será un tipo de folk mundial, la interpetarán como las piezas clásicas.

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando se mencionan las siguientes palabras?:

AM:

* música- el lenguaje de las emociones

* internet- herramienta para una profunda democratización de nuestra comunidad internacional

* voz- canal de comunicación

* disco- la opción para disponer de la música en cualquier momento y en casi cualquier lugar

* grupo- puede ser un espacio sumamente creativo

* creación- es mejor que el consumo

* respeto- la base de cualquier forma de comunicación

* proyectos- le dan variedad a la vida

* amigos- compañeros en esta aventura que llamamos vida. Y les dedico muy poco tiempo … :-/

* formato- MP3

* imprevistos- se nos presentan para mostrarnos las cosas importantes que debemos aprender

* estadio- Wembley

* instrumento- guitarra

* ética- si estamos unidos a Dios, sabemos distinguir el bien del mal

* rensayo- ¡¡¡ que sea más frecuente!!! J

* libertad- la base de una vida llena de amor

* vida- aventura

QFCM: ¿Nos puedes platicar sobre tu primer concierto y quienes fueron los primeros en saberlo?

AM: No puedo decir que mi primera presentación ante algunas personas haya sido un concierto. Fue en una pequeña fiesta de cumpleaños de un familiar de mi novio. Él tocó con algunos miembros de su grupo y después tocamos dos temas de Queen. “Love of my Life” y “Spread your wings”.

QFCM: ¿Cómo decides qué temas interpretar?,¿en qué te basas?

AM: The songs I love the most at that time… Since I never had a real repertoire till today, my assortment is big.

QFCM: ¿Cón qué frecuencia ensayas?

AM: De momento no ensayo. Espero poder hacerlo en el futuro una o dos veces por semana.

QFCM: Has colaborado con otro músico ?

AM: Sí, me gusto mucho la colaboración con Hernán Daniel Vallejo, es un espléndido guitarrista y una persona muy amable.

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu objetivo como intérprete de Queen?

AM: Quiero que quienes compartan mi entusiasmo canten conmigo para rendir homenaje a Queen y especialmente a Freddie Mercury.

QFCM: ¿Y tus expectativas?

AM: Poder presentarme por primera vez este año en concierto con Tom , el nuevo brillante guitarrista, con un repertorio en forma.

QFCM: ¿Piensas seguir tocando temas de Queen en el 2012?

AM: ¡SÍ!

QFCM : ¿Tienes algún proyecto en mente para el 2012?

AM: Así es, empezar mi propio negocio en la música bajo el nombre de “Add Music”.

QFCM ¿Cuáles son los 10 discos que tú llevarías contigo a una isla desierta?

AM: Aparte de Queen :-)

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico): How did you start into music?, what do you play?, why did you choose your instrument?

AM: I started singing by accompanying Freddie Mercury on the mp3-player. I wondered how would sound my voice without the support of Freddie’s voice and so I started recording my singing on the computer.

I chose piano maybe because my Grandmother used to have one really old piano at home upstairs.I liked to play some melodies everytime I visited her.

QFCM: What are your main influences?

AM: Queen, Queen, Queen, and female singers like Kari Bremnes…

QFCM: What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when listening to the Word “Queen”?

AM: …Hm… to be honest… only one: Freddie Mercury :-)

QFCM: How and when did you first know about Queen?

AM: I was at the age of 7 years, I guess… A friend of my brother was a fan of Queen. He had some posters in his chamber and I remember him playing some songs of Queen. I was impressed by the sound, but music was still not my topic.

QFCM: What do you admire the most about Queen and why?

AM: The most I admire the power and positive energy of Freddie Mercury’s singing and performing. This humorous minded and loving attitude towards music and his fans… You can see: I’m a REAL FAN!! :-)

QFCM: What’s the Queen record you like the most?

AM: Hm… that’s hard to say. It depends on my mood…. When I am really sad, I like the Album Innuendo very much. But in some kind of neutral mood, I like “News of the World” for example… When I’m a bit in a flimsy mood, I love hearing Hot Space...

QFCM: Do you have a dearest Queen song?, which one?

AM: …Well here counts the same precept as concerning the albums… Undeniable Masterpiece: Bohemian Rhapsody… But I’m also loving songs like “Who needs you”, “Dreamer’s Ball” or “Don’t try suicide” Lovely!!! :-)

QFCM: As a musician , what’s the most complicated Queen song and why ?

AM: Ohhh. “Who wants to live forever”! Because it is the last song I recorded recently, and because anything seems to swim in this song. These days I even can’t find the right notes… Unbelievable… But the older ones are often a bit harder to sing, because there often are only few spaces to breathe… And concerning the melodies: Killer Queen, Teo Toriatte: hard to sing. But Wonderful. And if you succeed: Best feeling ever. I mean, best feeling while singing… Fantastic. So much fun!

QFCM: What’s your favourite concert?

AM: I only know few of them (Montreal, Live at the Bowl, and Wembley). At Live at the Bowl Freddie Mercury seems aggressive to me. Perhaps only because I read in Peter Freestones book, that he had had some severe problems with his partner the night before the concert… I don’t know… When I am on the ball I like Montreal very much, the fast-thing and the fabulous kidding with the audience…

And a bit sad: Wembley, the little speech before performing “Who wants to live forever”… Hm.

QFCM: And video?

AM: Hahaha…. I know, not everybody likes it. But I love “I want to break free”. Also very nice are: We will rock you, and “Las palabras de Amor” :-)

QFCM: Which Queen book do you find the most amazing and why?

AM: Definitely Peter Freestones Freddie Mercury. It’s so personal and intimate. But at the same time filled with respect and love.

QFCM: What inspired you to play Queen covers and when did you start doing it?

AM: The watching of Bohemian Rhapsody at the Live Aid concert on YouTube… It was the beginning of my compassion for Freddie Mercury and Queen, since then I only want to sing these songs. They are so full of positive energy! :-) Great!

QFCM: What do you think of Freddie Mercury?

AM: I think, he was some kind of a hero, in the sense, that he conquered many difficulties in his life and that he gave people something back of the treasures he found by living his life authentically and with love in his heart.

QFCM: What’s his legacy to music in your opinion?

AM: Bohemian Rhapsody :-)

And the LP Barcelona what means: doing things consequently over the top, combining things people thought it wouldn’t fit.

QFCM: Which song would you have loved playing with him?, and with Queen?

AM: Oh what a vision, playing a song with Freddie Mercury… Perhaps Love of my life. Or Don’t try suicide.

QFCM: What’s John, Roger and Brian’s legacy to music?

AM: John Deacon: Many wonderful songs like I want to break free or Who needs you… and knowing when to leave the music business. Impressive personality, I think.

Roger Taylor: great Drums and backing vocals

Brian May: I love his guitar playing. And he gives a rock band some kind of an academic, intellectual aura :

QFCM: What makes Queen different to other groups from the musical point of view?

AM: They were much more complex in their music as many other rock bands. Whenever another band would have thought, now the song is perfect, they seem to have done one more start to make it better…. And the most important thing: they always have a positive energy in their songs… That’s the best about their music, I think.

QFCM: Which are your favourite Queen tribute bands?

AM: I don’t have some particular Bands, I prefer, but what I like the most is when the Bands do their own interpretation of the songs. That feels like celebrating the works of Queen, outstanding artists. I become sad if I see/hear a band that tries to copy Queen. It’s not Queen, and that’s sad…. It feels like not accepting that Queen doesn’t exist anymore…

QFCM: Which is the best Queen song covered?

AM: Oh…. Hard to say. I love many versions of Bohemian Rhapsody…

QFCM: In case you’ve not played it yet , which Queen song you’ve dreamt of playing?

AM: Oh there are still many of them. For example: The Millionaire Waltz, Bijou, Keep Yourself Alive…

QFCM: What would you have told Freddie if you had met him?

AM: I think I would have loved to listen to him, less to talk to him. If I had the chance to say something to him I would say: Thank you.

QFCM: If you could meet Brian, Roger and John, what would you tell them?

AM: I guess the same as to Freddie Mercury. Thank you.

QFCM: If you could see Queen live, what would be your dream set list ?

AM: All the old stuff, and all the stuff that wasn’t played that often on the Radio…

QFCM: What Queen stuff would you like to be released?

AM: I would like to have some bootlegs, to be honest. To have the real-life impression!

QFCM: Why do you thing Queen’s so popular nowadays?

AM: I think they are so popular, because this music has a great energy. And this energy is important in these very intense times.

QFCM: In your opinion what will Queen music be like in 10 years time?

AM: It will be some kind of a worldwide folk-music. It will be interpreted like classical compositions.

QFCM: What comes to your mind when listening to these words? :

AM:

* music - speech of emotions

* internet - tool for deep democratization of our worldwide community

* voice - channel of communnication

* record - the possibility to make music available anytime at almost any place

* group - can be a highly creative space

* creation- is better than consumption

* respect - is the base of any communication

* projects - make life diverse

* friends are companions through the adventure called life. And I give them to less time in my life… :-/

* format - mp3

* unexpected problems- are here to show us important things we have to learn

* stadium - Wembley

* instrument- Guitar

* ethics - if we stay with God, we know what is right and wrong

QFCM: Can you tell us about your fist gig? , and who were the first to know?

AM: Gig is a big word for my first singing before some people. It was on a birthday party of some relative of my boyfriend. He played with his bandmates and afterwards we played two Queen songs. Love of my Life and Spread your wings.

QFCM: How do you choose which songs to play?, what do you base on?

AM: The songs I love the most at that time… Since I never had a real repertoire till today, my assortment is big.

QFCM: How often do you rehearse?

AM: Not at all at the moment. Hope in the future once or twice a week.

QFCM: Have you (and / or LATD) collaborated with anyone?

AM: Yes, I liked my collaboration with Hernan Daniel Vallejo the most, he is a great guitarist and a very gentle person.

QFCM: What’s your aim as a Queen performer?

AM: I want to celebrate Queen and especially Freddie Mercury with all the crazy people in the world, in a chanson-like way.

QFCM: And your expectations?

AM: Playing my first real Gig, with a real repertoire this year, together with Tom, the new excellent guitarist on my side.

QFCM: Are you willing to keep on playing Queen songs in 2012 ?

AM: YES!

QFCM: Do you have in mind any special project for the 2012?

AM: Yes, starting my own business in music, called “Add Music”.

QFCM: Which are the 10 records you’d take to a desert island (any groups/singers)?
