Un esbozo al vínculo de Jean Baptiste Origal con la música y Queen en sus propias palabras.

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico) : ¿Cómo fue tu acercamiento a la música, qué instrumentos tocas y por qué los elegiste?

JB (Jean Baptiste) : Me inicié en le piano cuando tenía 5 años y estudié música clásica. También aprendí violin y cello. Pero desde los 16 años empecé a tocar batería, y bajo a los 18.

QFCM: ¿Quiénes son tus influencias?

JB: Queen por supuesto , pero también Elvis Presley , música clásica, blues (tengo un grupo de blues en donde vivo, Francia ) , gospel y Jazz ;)

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando escuchas la palabra “Queen”?

JB: ¡¡¡¡Sexo !!!! ;))))) No, estoy bromeando. Tal vez libertad , porque en su música todo parece fácil y posible.

QFCM: ¿Cómo y cuándo conociste a Queen?

JB: Por la radio, y al escuchar algunos de sus Cd’s. Después de algún tiempo, yo quería aprenderme todas sus canciones ;))

QFCM: ¿Qué te impacta de Queen y por qué?

JB: Su creatividad y el talento de cada uno de sus integrantes.

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu disco favorito de Queen?

JB: Muchos, probablemente Somebody To love , y I Want it all. Let me live también es genial y me gustan algunas canciones del álbum Innuendo como I can’t live with you.

QFCM: ¿Tienes un tema preferido de Queen? , ¿cuál?.

JB: La misma respuesta que en la pregunta anterior ;)

QFCM: Desde tu punto de vista como músico ¿qué tema consideras más complejo ?

JB: Somebody To love por sus armonías, es un tema sumamente complejo , no obstante es divertido interpretarlo;)

QFCM: ¿En qué formato escuchas sus canciones?

JB: DVD y archivos de audio. Rara vez en CD (completo oroginal) pues prefiero hacerme otro con mis temas favoritos ;))

QFCM: ¿Tu concierto favorito?

JB: Hammersmith 1975.

QFCM: ¿Y video?

JB: El de Innuendo.

QFCM: En caso de haber leído algún libro de Queen, ¿cuál te ha asombrado y por qué?

JB: El Nuevo de su 40º aniversario, es muy interesante con muchas “joyas”. Tienen que comprarlo ;)

QFCM: ¿Qué te motivó a tocar covers de Queen y cuándo empezaste a hacerlo?

JB: El hecho de que tiene un vínculo estrecho con la música clásica. Cuando empecé aprender el tema de Bohemian Rhapsody en el piano, quería tocar las notas exactas a las de la versión original. También aprendí varias partes de los coros que me parecían más interesantes.

QFCM: ¿Qué opinas de Freddie Mercury?

JB: Es un genio. Es el Mozart del siglo pasado ;)

QFCM: ¿Cuál crees que fue su legado al mundo de la música?

JB: Con Freddie todo era posible si realmente lo deseabas ;))

QFCM: ¿Qué tema te hubiera gustado tocar con él?, ¿y con Queen?

JB: Living on My own, o In My Defence con Freddie Mercury. Con Queen quizá Let Me Live, o Too Much Love Will Kill You.

QFCM: Nuevamente como músico ¿cuál es la aportación de John, Roger y Brian?

JB: John: un magnífico bajista y compositor.

Roger: ¡¡¡unos coros increíbles!!!! :))) y es un músico excelente.

Brian : un hombre muy amable y sumamente inteligente , así como un buen pianista y cantante.

QFCM: ¿Qué hace a Queen diferente de otros grupos desde el punto de vista musical?

JB: Su sonido y estilo únicos: su gran inteligencia.

QFCM: ¿Cuáles son tus grupos extranjeros tributo a Queen preferidos?

JB: Vi a Gary Mullen en concierto. Me pareció fantástico , pero también me gustan otros grupos tribute como "The Miracle" de Holanda y "Breakthru" de Italia.

QFCM: En tu opinión ¿cuál es el mejor cover a un tema de Queen?

JB: Nuestro cover a Bohemian Rhapsody :)))) ¡¡¡¡por supuesto!!!! .

QFCM: Si no lo has hecho ya, ¿qué tema de Queen aún sueñas interpretar?

JB: Hammer To Fall , Let Me Live y I Want It All.

QFCM: Si hubieras conocido a Freddie , ¿que le hubieras dicho?

JB: No lo sé, tal vez mi timidez hubiera impedido conocerlo y hablarle.

QFCM: Si pudieras conocer a Brian, Roger y John, ¿qué le dirías a cada uno de ellos?

JB: Muchas gracias por su música que aún se mantiene vigente. Pero creo que ya lo saben ;))))

QFCM: Si pudieras ver a Queen en vivo ¿cuál sería el set list ideal?

JB: Probablemente el mismo de Wembley, y algunos temas de principios de los 70’s ,y de los 90’s (como de los álbumes Innuendo y The Miracle).

QFCM: ¿Qué material te gustaría que Queen lanzara?

JB: Multitracks ;))))) y también algunos demos.

QFCM: ¿Por qué crees que la música de Queen es tan popular ahora?

JB: Porque es atemporal.

QFCM: ¿Cómo ves la música de Queen dentro de 10 años?

JB: Igual que ahora: muy popular y viva.

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando se mencionan las siguientes palabras?:

*música- deleite

*Internet- encuentro

*voz- creatividad

*disco- 15 álbumes en 20 años de carrera .)

*grupo- sociedad

*creación- emoción

*respeto- amistad

*proyecto- interés

*amigos- satisfacción

*formato- Audio, MP3 y onda es lo mismo: para mí no hay diferencia. La música es música, y también porque soy músico, el oído es un órgano de vital importancia para mí. No podría vivir sin mis oídos. :)

*imprevistos- ruptura ;( .Espero que eso no suceda.

*estadio- Albert Hall de Londres ;)) . Me encanta ese teatro.

*instrumento- creatividad

*ética- justicia

*ensayo- discusión ;))) , es normal , ¿no?

*libertad- posibilidad

*vida- amor

QFCM: ¿Nos puedes platicar sobre tu primera presentación y quienes fueron los primeros en saberlo?

JB: Fue en la época en la que tocaba música clásica, durante unas vacaciones de verano en un centro vacacional .Estaba un poco estresado durante el concierto. Entonces yo tenía 7 años.

QFCM: ¿Cómo deciden qué temas interpretar?,¿en qué se basan?

JB: Si a todos nos gustan, los tocamos ;)))

QFCM: ¿Cón qué frecuencia ensayas?

JB: Cuando puedo :)

QFCM: Han colaborado con otro músico (como Lucie And The Diamonds)?

JB: Estamos preparando un proyecto con un músico italiano.

QFCM: Hay alguna anécdota como músico que desees compartir con nosotros?

JB: No. Bueno, de hecho tengo muchas, pero no puedo recordarlas a todas . Tal vez una, cuando iba en secundaria, y conocí y toqué con músicos profesionales, fue una experiencia extraordinaria. También otra de la época en la que tocaba música clásica , yo era todavía más joven, y tuve el honor de tocar el piano frente al autor de la pieza, y él me dio su autógrafo. No sé nada de él ahora, él ya era muy grande entonces. Hace 5 años, creo.

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu objetivo como intérprete de Queen?

JB: Disfrutar el interpretar su música.

QFCM: ¿Y tus expectativas?

JB: Que a la gente le guste.

QFCM: ¿Piensan seguir tocando temas de Queen en el 2012?

JB: Oh, sí, eso espero ;))))

QFCM : ¿Tienes algún proyecto en mente para el año entrante?

JB: Aún no.

QFCM ¿Cuáles son los 10 discos que tú llevarías contigo a una isla desierta?

JB: Queen , Elvis Presley, y también algunos temas de Police ;))

QFCM: ¿Un mensaje a los fans de Queen?

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico): How did you start into music?, what do you play?, why did you choose your instrument?

JB: (Jean Baptiste): I began piano at the age of 5 and studied classical music, I played also violin and cello. But since I was 16, I began drums and also bass at the age of 18.

QFCM: What are your main influences?

JB: Queen of course , but also Elvis Presley and classical music. Also blues ( I have a blues band where I live in France) , also some gospel music, and Jazz too ;)

QFCM: What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when listening to the word “Queen”?

JB: Sex !!!! ;))))) No, I’m joking. Maybe freedom , because with their music everything seems to be easy and possible.

QFCM: How and when did you first know about Queen?

JB: When listening to the radio and also by listening to their CD’s. And as time went by , I wanted to know every songs of the band ;))

QFCM: What do you admire the most about Queen and why?

JB: Their creativity and the talent of each musician.

QFCM: What’s the Queen record you like the most?

JB: A lot of , but maybe Somebody To love , and I Want it all. Let Me live also is great, and I also like some songs from the Innuendo album, like I Can’t live with you.

QFCM: ¿Which format do you prefer when listening to music?

JB: DVD and audio file. It’s very rare about CD, because I prefer to make my own list of songs on CD ;))

QFCM: Do you have a dearest Queen song?, which one?

JB: The same answer as question 6. ;)

QFCM: As a musician , what’s the most complicated Queen song and why ?

JB: Somebody To love because of the harmonies: it’s a very complicated song, but It’s such a fun to work on it ;)

QFCM: What’s your favourite concert?

JB: Hammersmith 1975.

QFCM: And video?

JB: The Innuendo video clip.

QFCM: Which Queen book do you find the most amazing and why?

JB: The new one : the 40th anniversary book : It s a very interesting book with many "jewels". You must buy it ;)

QFCM: What inspired you to play Queen covers and when did you start doing it?

JB: The fact that it’s very close to classical music. I started studying piano with the track of Bohemian Rhapsody: I wanted to get the exact notes of the original piano track. Also I was learning some backing vocals of the songs which are the most interesting to do.

QFCM: What do you think of Freddie Mercury?

JB: He is a genius. He is the Mozart of the last century ;)

QFCM: What’s his legacy to music in your opinion?

JB: The fact that everything can be possible if it worth it . With Freddie everything is possible if you really want it ;))

QFCM: Which song would you have loved playing with him?, and with Queen?

JB: With Freddie Mercury : Living on my own, or In my defence. With Queen. maybe Let Me Live or Too Much Love Will Kill You.

QFCM: What’s John, Roger and Brian’s legacy to music?

JB: John: a very good bassist and composer

Roger: great voices!!!! :))) and a very good musician

Brian : a very kind man , very clever too, and a really great pianist and singer as well.

QFCM: What makes Queen different to other groups from the musical point of view?

JB: : Their unique sound and unique playing style too: so clever.

QFCM: Which are your favourite Queen tribute bands?

JB: I saw Gary Mullen live. It was great , but I also like some tribute bands such as "The Miracle" band from Holland, and "Breakthru" from Italy.

QFCM: Which is the best Queen song covered?

JB: Bohemian Rhapsody by us:)))) of course!!!!

QFCM: In case you’ve not played it yet , which Queen song you’ve dreamt of playing?

JB: Hammer To Fall , Let Me Live, and I Want It All.

QFCM: What would you have told Freddie if you had met him?

JB: I don’t know, I would have been probably too shy to meet him and talk to him.

QFCM: If you could meet Brian, Roger and John, what would you tell them?

JB: Thanks a lot for their music, and it still lives on. But I think they already know it ;))))

QFCM: If you could see Queen live, what would be your dream set list ?

JB: Maybe the same as the Wembley concert, some songs from the early 70’s , and also some songs from the 90’s (the Innuendo and The Miracle albums).

QFCM: What Queen stuff would you like to be released?

JB: Mulltitracks ;))))) and some demos too .

QFCM: Why do you thing Queen’s so popular nowadays?

JB: Because their music is alive.

QFCM: In your opinion what will Queen music be like in 10 years time?

JB: Always the same as now : so famous and alive.

QFCM: What comes to your mind when listening to these words? :

music: enjoy

internet : meeting

voice: creativity

record: 15 albums in 20 years of career.)

group: entity

creation: emotion

respect: friendship

project: interest

friends : satisfaction

format: audio mp3 and wave it’s the same: it doesn’t make any difference:)) Music is music, and also because I’m a musician and ear is the most important organ to me. I couldn’t live without ears :)
unexpected problems: break up ;( (I hope it won’t happen)

stadium: Royal Albert Hall in London ;)) I love this theater

QFCM: Can you tell us about your fist gig? , and who were the first to know?

JB: It was the at time when I played classical music , during a Summer holiday in a colony center . I was a bit stressed during this concert. At that time I was 7 years old.

QFCM: How do you choose which songs to play?, what do you base on?

JB: If we all like them, we play them ;)))

QFCM: How often do you rehearse?

JB: When it’s possible :)

QFCM: Have you (LATD) collaborated with anyone?

JB: We (Lucie & the Diamonds) are preparing a project with a musician who comes from Italy.

QFCM: Is there an anecdote as a musician you’d like to share with us?

JB: No, I haven’t .Well in fact , I have a lot of things on mind , but I don’t remember a lot. Maybe the fact that one day at high school, I met and played with some professional musicians, and it was a great experience. And also during my classical period when I was younger, I had the honor to play a piano song before the author of this song, and I had a autograph from this man, now I don’t know what has become of him now , because he was very old at that time. It was about 5 years ago, I think .

QFCM: What’s your aim as a Queen performer?

JB: To enjoy playing their music.

QFCM: And your expectations?

JB: That the audience likes it.

QFCM: Are you willing to keep on playing Queen songs in 2012 ?

JB: Oh, yes. I hope so ;))))

QFCM: Do you have in mind any special project for the next year?

JB: Not yet.

QFCM: Which are the 10 records you’d take to a desert island (any groups/singers)?

JB: Queen, Elvis Presley,and some Police songs too ;))
