QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico) : ¿Cómo fue tu acercamiento a la música, qué instrumentos tocas y por qué los elegiste?

DG (Drago Grgić) : Cuando tenía 5 ó 6 años imitaba a los cantantes croatas famosos de esa época .Mi primer contactio con el instrumento también data de ese periodo. Era una mandolina de juguete. Después tocaba canciones populares en ese instrument. Poco después mis padres vieron que la mandolina era pequeña para mí, y me compraron una guitarra acústica…

QFCM: ¿Quiénes son tus influencias?

DG: 100% Queen –me es difícil pensar en ellos como entidades independientes. Brian May como guitarrista, compositor, productor, arreglista, en un músico tan completo, y va más allá…

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando escuchas la palabra “Queen”?

DG: ¿¡Se imaginan!? :-)

QFCM: ¿Cómo y cuándo conociste a Queen?

DG: Mi primo compró el álbum ‘Shear Heart Attack’ y me lo mostró album, gracias Alen... :-)

QFCM: ¿Qué te impacta de Queen y por qué?

DG: ¡Música fantástica, única!. Cuando era joven prefería su material de estudio, pero ahora veo que sus actuaciones en vivo también eran espectaculares.

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu disco favorito de Queen?

DG: ‘Shear Heart Attack’

QFCM: ¿Tienes un tema preferido de Queen? , ¿cuál?.

DG: ‘Lily Of The Valley’

QFCM: Desde tu punto de vista como músico ¿qué tema consideras más complejo ?

DG: Somebody to Love’ y ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – ¡Con coros en 200 pistas!. ¡Magnífico!

QFCM: ¿En qué formato escuchas sus canciones?

DG: ¿Formato de archivos de audio? Wav para trabajo en forma y escuchar música, y MP3 para enviarlos vía internet por su rapidez.

QFCM: ¿Tu concierto favorito?

DG: Queen en Wembley ‘86. Creo que el final de la gira ‘Magic’.

QFCM: ¿Y video?

DG: Lo mismo que en la pregunta anterior.

QFCM: En caso de haber leído algún libro de Queen, ¿cuál te ha asombrado y por qué?

DG: Leí una biografía traducida al croata, no recuerdo el título…

QFCM: ¿Qué te motivó a tocar covers de Queen y cuándo empezaste a hacerlo?

DG: Tenía 15 años cuando descubrí la música de Queen, mi evolución como guitarrista está estrechamente vinculada a la música de Queen , y todo lo que toco es muy similar al estilo de Brian y Queen. Por ende es lógico que toquemos covers de Queen. Pero de igual forma mi grupo y yo preferimos tocar nuestra propia música. Si de alguna manera guarda algún parecido a la música de Queen , qué puedo hacer, no lo puedo evitar, ¡y no quiero alejarme de las buenas influencias!

QFCM: ¿Qué opinas de Freddie Mercury?

DG: Siempre lo digo, el No. 1 de los músicos del siglo XX, ¡¡¡pero por favor no olvidemos la feliz combinación de músicos con el nombre de Queen!!!, ¡ realmente no sé que hubiera sido de él sin sus compañeros!

QFCM: ¿Cuál crees que fue su legado al mundo de la música?

DG: Todo lo que comenté anteriormente...

QFCM: ¿Qué tema te hubiera gustado tocar con él?, ¿y con Queen?

DG: No solo un tema.Por favor, de ser posible todo un concierto ... wooooooooooooow...y después me podría morir feliz ... :-)

QFCM: Nuevamente como músico ¿cuál es la aportación de John, Roger y Brian?

DG: ¡¡Por favor no intenten hablar de los integrantes de Queen como entidades independientes, jamás!!!

QFCM: ¿Qué hace a Queen diferente de otros grupos desde el punto de vista musical?

DG: Entre Queen y los otros grupos hay una distancia como entre el cielo y la tierra... Escuchen y se darán cuenta...

QFCM: ¿Cuáles son tus grupos extranjeros tributo a Queen preferidos?

DG: ‘Dios Salve a La Reina’ y ‘Night of Queen’ por igual. Obviamente no puedo votar por Lucie & The Diamonds. :-)

QFCM: En tu opinión ¿cuál es el mejor cover a un tema de Queen?

DG: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ de un grupo que conozco... Los siento, pero así lo creo...

QFCM: Si no lo has hecho ya, ¿qué tema de Queen aún sueñas interpretar?

DG: ¡Todo el repertorio posible de Queen que podamos tocar! . ¡Pero realmente mi sueño es hacer más temas originales con mi grupo!

QFCM: Si hubieras conocido a Freddie , ¿que le hubieras dicho?

DG: Tal vez no habrían palabras... quizás una sonrisa... eso es lo que me gustaría.

QFCM: Si pudieras conocer a Brian, Roger y John, ¿qué le dirías a cada uno de ellos?

DG: Lo imagino... mi inglés no es muy bueno, ¡así que nuevamente sonreiría! Pero intentaría decir ‘thank you’...

QFCM: Si pudieras ver a Queen en vivo ¿cuál sería el set list ideal?

DG: Sus primeros temas. Prefiero las canciones de sus inicios.

QFCM: ¿Qué material te gustaría que Queen lanzara?

DG: Algunas veces encuentro en YT alguna nueva version (de hecho antigua pero diferente) de algún tema,pero creo que todo lo que lanzaron lo hicieron de la mejor forma posible. Por ejemplo me gusta esta versión: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT4qPTuelio

QFCM: ¿Por qué crees que la música de Queen es tan popular ahora?

DG: Porque su calidad es atemporal.

QFCM: ¿Cómo ves la música de Queen dentro de 10 años?

DG: ¡Más (popular) que ahora, más que nunca! ¡Es algo irrepetible!

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando se mencionan las siguientes palabras?:

*música- algo sumamente bello

*Internet- sin internet soy hombre muerto

*voz- cantante, buen intérprete

*disco- LP, el (buen ) viejo vinil

*grupo- mi grupo, por supuesto, Lucie & The Diamonds

*creación- primero debes esforzarte, y después dejarte invadir por ese hermoso sentimiento

*respeto- respeta a los demás de la misma forma en que quiere que te respeten

*proyecto- sistema, como concreter una idea

*amigos- comprensión entre las personas

*formato- ja, ja, ja... ¿formato de algún archivo?

*imprevistos- ¡terrible! , de todas formas, algo que se debe resolver de inmediato

*estadio- Wembley.¡ Lucie&TheDiamonds en el estadio de Wembley! ¡Actuando por supuesto! ¡Tarde o temprano!

*instrumento- ¡el sonido de cada instrument es tan agradable!, ¡soy arreglista, sé de qué hablo!

*ética- la ley como parte del código genético de una persona

*ensayo- ¡no me lo pregunten! Es tan doloroso, porque los miembros del grupo están tan lejos

*libertad- Toma tu libertad y dale la suya a los demás

*vida- ¡Sólo un, tan corta y hermosa!

QFCM: ¿Nos puedes platicar sobre tu primera presentación y quienes fueron los primeros en saberlo?

DG: Mi primer grupo ‘Hladna točka’ (Punto frío), 26.10.1980. en Split city (Croacia). ¡Una actuación magnífica! , ¡al día siguiente salimos en el periódico! Inolvidable.

QFCM: ¿Cón qué frecuencia ensayas?

DG: De ser posible trato de estar en contacto con la música todos los días. Ya sea tocando la guitarra, componiendo, haciendo algún arreglo musical, trabajando en producción…

QFCM: Han colaborado con otro músico (como Lucie And The Diamonds)?

DG: La colaboración con los miembros de mi grupo es suficiente para mí, no tengo tiempo ni necesidad de algo más. ¡Y estoy tan satisfecho con esta colaboración!

QFCM: Hay alguna anécdota como músico que desees compartir con nosotros?

DG: El comentario de Lucie cuando terminamos nuestro video de ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, nos dijo: ‘Oigan se pusieron tan ‘locos’, que la próxima vez me voy a tener que sentar en el piano al final de la canción!, ¡como Freddie!’.

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu objetivo como intérprete de Queen?

DG: Solamente tocar Buena música. ¡Qué más podría querer!

QFCM: ¿Y tus expectativas?

DG: ¡Disfrutar la música hasta el final (de los tiempos) !

QFCM: ¿Piensan seguir tocando temas de Queen en el 2012?

DG: Otra vez, menos Queen, más material original de nuestro grupo. ¡Pero va a sonar mucho a Queen! :-)

QFCM : ¿Tienes algún proyecto en mente para el año entrante?

DG: Para mi cada proyecto Nuevo de nuestro grupo es algo muy especial .

QFCM ¿Cuáles son los 10 discos que tú llevarías contigo a una isla desierta?

DG: Álbumes de Queen , Música de L&TD y algunos de mis viejos temas en croata ....

QFCM: ¿Un mensaje a los fans de Queen?

DG: Es muy agradable formar parte de esta comunidad – ¡¡¡¡Hola todos, los quiero!!!!

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico): How did you start into music?, what do you play?, why did you choose your instrument?

DG (Drago Grgić ): When I was 5 or 6 years, I imitated the famous Croatian singers from that era. First contact with the instrument is also from that era, it was a mandolin - children's toys. I then played popular tunes on the mandolin. Shortly afterwards, my parents saw that I outgrew a little mandolin, so they bought an acoustic guitar ...

QFCM: What are your main influences?

DG: 100% Queen – It’s so hard to split Queen on separate persons for me. Brian May as guitarist, author, producer, arranger, complete musical person, a bit more...

QFCM: What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when listening to the Word “Queen”?

DG: Can you imagine!? :-)

QFCM: How and when did you first know about Queen?

DG: My cousin bought and showed me ‘Shear Heart Attack’ album, thank you Alen... :-)

QFCM: What do you admire the most about Queen and why?

DG: So fantastic music, unrepeatable! When I was younger I prefered their studio work, but today I see that live performances was spectacular too.

QFCM: What’s the Queen record you like the most?

DG: ‘Shear Heart Attack’

QFCM: Do you have a dearest Queen song?, which one?

DG: ‘Lily Of The Valley’

QFCM: As a musician , what’s the most complicated Queen song and why ?

DG: ‘Somebody to Love’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – 200 choir’s tracks! Heeey!

QFCM: ¿Which format do you prefer when listening to music?

DG: Format of audio file? Wav for serious work and listening, MP3 for fast sending via internet.

QFCM: What’s your favourite concert?

DG: Queen on Wembley ‘86., I think the ending of the ‘Magic tour’.

QFCM: And video?

DG: The same as previous.

QFCM: Which Queen book do you find the most amazing and why?

DG: I read some biography on Croatian language, I forgot the title...

QFCM: What inspired you to play Queen covers and when did you start doing it?

DG: I was 15 when I discovered Queen music, my growing as guitarist is tightly linked with Queen music and everything what I play is so similar to Brian’s style and Queen’s style. Then it’s so logical to play Queen covers. But also, me and my band prefer our own music. If it will somewhat resemble Queen music – what can I do, I can’t help it, and I don’t want to escape from good influences!

QFCM: What do you think of Freddie Mercury?

DG: I always said – no. 1 of musicians of 20th century– but please, don’t forget the so happy combination of musicians called - Queen!!! I really don’t know what Freddie would be without this combination!

QFCM: What’s his legacy to music in your opinion?

DG: Everything above about it...

QFCM: Which song would you have loved playing with him?, and with Queen?

DG: Not only one song. Please if I could (play with them a) whole concert... wooooooooooooow... and then I could die happily.. :-)

QFCM: What’s John, Roger and Brian’s legacy to music?

DG: Please don’t separate Queen on persons in this meaning, never!!!

QFCM: What makes Queen different to other groups from the musical point of view?

DG: Queen and others – Heaven and earth... Listen, you will see...

QFCM: Which are your favourite Queen tribute bands?

DG: Equal – ‘Dios Salve a La Reina’ and ‘Night of Queen’. Of course I must not to vote for Lucie & The Diamonds. :-)

QFCM: Which is the best Queen song covered?

DG: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ from some band... Sorry, but I really think so...

QFCM: In case you’ve not played it yet , which Queen song you’ve dreamt of playing?

DG: Everything what I imagine of Queen, my band can play! But my dream is just doing more our own songs!

QFCM: What would you have told Freddie if you had met him?

DG: I think that I would be without any word... perhaps only a smile... I feel like that.

QFCM: If you could meet Brian, Roger and John, what would you tell them?

DG: I imagine it...My English is poor , so again a smile! But I would try to say ‘thank You’...

QFCM: If you could see Queen live, what would be your dream set list ?

DG: Older songs. I prefer older songs.

QFCM: What Queen stuff would you like to be released?

DG: Sometimes I find some new (in fact older, different) version of some song on YT , but I think that they did their best on their releases. E.g. I like this version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT4qPTuelio

QFCM: Why do you thing Queen’s so popular nowadays?

DG: Because quality is for evermore.

QFCM: In your opinion what will Queen music be like in 10 years time?

DG: More than today, more than ever! It’s something unrepeatable!

QFCM: What comes to your mind when listening to these words? :

music: Such a beautiful thing

internet : I’m a dead man without internet

voice: Singer, good singer

record: LP, (good) old vinyl

group: my group, of course, Lucie & The Diamonds

creation: Creation – you must make some effort first, and then take the beautiful feeling

respect: Respect others as you want that others respect you

project: System, how to realize an idea

friends : Friends – understanding between people

format: Ha, ha ,ha... Format of some file?

unexpected problems: Terrible! Anyway, for immediate solving

stadium: Wembley. Lucie&TheDiamonds on Wembley stadium! As performers of course! Sooner or later!

instruments: Sound of every instrument is so nice! I work arrangements, I know it!

ethics: The law embeded in people as genetic (information).

rehearsal : Don’t ask me! So painful, because the band members are so far away

freedom : Take your freedom and give freedom to others

life: Only one, so short and beautiful!

QFCM: Can you tell us about your fist gig? , and who were the first to know?

DG: My first band ‘Hladna točka’ (Cold point), 26.10.1980. at Split city (Croatia). Such a great performance! Next day we were in the newspapers! Unforgettable.

QFCM: How often do you rehearse?

DG: I try to be in touch with music everyday, if it’s possible. Either playing guitar, doing songs, arrangements, production...

QFCM: Have you (LATD) collaborated with anyone else?

DG: Collaboration with members of my band is enough for me, I have no time, and I have no need for anything more. And I’m so satisfied with this collaboration!

QFCM: Is there an anecdote as a musician you’d like to share with us?

DG: Lucie’s comment after we finished our ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ video – she said: ‘You guys looks like so ‘crazy’, next time I have to sit on my piano at the ending of a song! Like Freddie!.’

QFCM: What’s your aim as a Queen performer?

DG: Only to play good music. But what else should I !

QFCM: And your expectations?

DG: To enjoy music till the end (of time) !

QFCM: Are you willing to keep on playing Queen songs in 2012 ?

DG: Again, less Queen, more our own (stuff). But it will be so similar to Queen! :-)

QFCM: Do you have in mind any special project for the next year?

DG: For me, every new project of our band is something really special to me.

QFCM: Which are the 10 records you’d take to a desert island (any groups/singers)?

DG: Queen albums, L&TD music and some of my old songs in Croatian....

QFCM: Would you like to send a message to the Queen fans?

DG: It’s so nice feeling to be part of this community – Hallo people, I love You!!!!
