Lucie Halamíková, (Lucie & the Diamonds) – Entrevista

Un esbozo al vínculo de Lucie con la música y Queen en sus propias palabras (seguramente la recuerdan, fan de Queen en la República Checa, pianista, voz principal , coros, y coproducción de audio y video en el grupo europeo tributo a Queen: Lucie & The Diamonds).

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico) : ¿Cómo fue tu acercamiento a la música, qué instrumentos tocas y por qué los elegiste?

LH (Lucie Halamíková): Empecé a tocar el piano cuando tenía 7 años. Asistí a una escuela de música y fui una niña con suerte porque tuve ¡¡¡a la mejor maestra!!!. Su influencia fue determinante en mi relación con el piano y la música. Tal vez elegí el piano pues mi abuela tenía uno muy antiguo en el piso de arriba de su casa. Siempre que la visitaba me gustaba tocar algunos temas en él.

QFCM: ¿Quiénes son tus influencias?

LH: Queen, Norah Jones y música clásica (Grieg, Chopin).

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando escuchas la palabra “Queen”?

LH: Freddie...y la mejor música de todos los tiempos :-)

QFCM: ¿Cómo y cuándo conociste a Queen?

LH: Fue en 1988 , yo tenía 12 años entonces, y vi su concierto "Live In Budapest" en TV.

QFCM: ¿Qué te impacta de Queen y por qué?

LH: Que se trata de cuatro figuras excepcionales, cuatro músicos magníficos y únicos, la voz de Freddie , la guitarra de Brian , su búsqueda por el perfeccionismo. Si unimos estos elementos…¡se logra una combinación extraordinaria!

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu disco favorito de Queen?

LH: Sheer Heart Attack y A Night At The Opera.

QFCM: ¿Tienes un tema preferido de Queen? , ¿cuál?.

LH: Son muchos…no puedo mencionar solo uno. :-) Is This The World We Created, Princess Of The Universe, In My Defence (tema de Freddie como solista)....

QFCM: Desde tu punto de vista como músico ¿qué tema consideras más complejo ?

LH: Tal vez Bohemian Rhapsody – ¡¡¡por los coros!!!. En cuanto al tema que a mí me parece más difícil tocar en piano … diría que es Mustapha.

QFCM: ¿Tu concierto favorito?

LH: Live At The Bowl (1982).

QFCM: ¿Y video?

LH: El mismo...Live At The Bowl.

QFCM: En caso de haber leído algún libro de Queen, ¿cuál te ha asombrado y por qué?

LH: "Mercury and me" por Jim Hutton , me parece un libro con un contenido muy íntimo , escrito con amor :-)

QFCM: ¿Qué te motivó a tocar covers de Queen y cuándo empezaste a hacerlo?

LH: El propio Queen porque me encanta su música y es mi favorito. Hice mi primer cover de Queen hace dos años, para participar en un concurso en internet.

QFCM: ¿Qué opinas de Freddie Mercury?

LH: ¡¡¡Pasan tantas cosas por mi mente que no puedo expresarlo todo aquí!!! El mejor intérprete con con una potencia vocal increíble. Un showman. Un compositor notable. Una persona sumamente interesante y fuera de lo común que me hubiera gustado conocer:-) . Un hombre tímido y amable con un corazón lleno de amor hacia sus amigos cercanos y su familia.

QFCM: ¿Cuál crees que fue su legado al mundo de la música?

LH: Motivarnos a hacer música con toda nuestra alma y corazón . Sin estos elementos la música se escucharía “vacía”…

QFCM: ¿Qué tema te hubiera gustado tocar con él?, ¿y con Queen?

LH: Con Freddie "Mother Love".Con Queen "Evermore" (el tema de nuestro grupo Lucie & The Diamonds dedicado a Freddie).

QFCM: Nuevamente como músico ¿cuál es la aportación de John, Roger y Brian?

LH: Exhortarnos a dar lo mejor de sí en cada canción, lo máximo .

QFCM: ¿Qué hace a Queen diferente de otros grupos desde el punto de vista musical?

LH: Su sonido, sus grandes temas y la singular personalidad de cada integrante.

QFCM: ¿Cuáles son tus grupos extranjeros tributo a Queen preferidos?

LH: Lucie & The Diamonds :-))))))))))) No, sólo bromeo…el grupo Dios Salve a la Reina.

QFCM: En tu opinión ¿cuál es el mejor cover a un tema de Queen?

LH: (No sé si te refieres a un tema al que mi grupo o yo hayamos hecho algún cover, o al de otro grupo)…Si es un cover de nuestro grupo diría que Bohemian Rhapsody , si es una versión mía , Melancholy Blues. Admiro los covers hechos por Marc Martel – el intérprete ganador del grupo tributo Queen Extravaganza :-)))

QFCM: Si no lo has hecho ya, ¿qué tema de Queen aún sueñas interpretar?

LH: In My Defence (tema de Freddie como solista).

QFCM: Si hubieras conocido a Freddie , ¿que le hubieras dicho?

LH: "Freddie, tuve la suerte de conocer a tu hermana Kash. Es una persona adorable y muy amable. Se parece mucho a ti." :-)

QFCM: Si pudieras conocer a Brian, Roger y John, ¿qué le dirías a cada uno de ellos?

LH: "John, ¿podrías tocar con Brian y Roger en un concierto, por favor?, aunque sea una vez. ¡¡¡Queremos vertlos y escucharlos tocar!!! …" Brian y Roger, por favor, ¿podrían escuchar nuestro tema "Evermore" dedicado a Freddie? " :-)))

QFCM: Si pudieras ver a Queen en vivo ¿cuál sería el set list ideal?

LH: Me gustaría escuchar temas de los álbumes Miracle, Innuendo y Made In Heaven. Y en cuanto a otros temas, me encantaría escuchar Princess Of The Universe en vivo.

QFCM: ¿Qué material te gustaría que Queen lanzara?

LH: ¡¡¡Todo el material inédito de Freddie como solista y de Queen !!!

QFCM: ¿Por qué crees que la música de Queen es tan popular ahora?

LH: Su música es tan buena que por eso a la gente actualmente le sigue gustando. La música de Queen se mantiene viva a través del tiempo.

QFCM: ¿Cómo ves la música de Queen dentro de 10 años?

LH: ¡¡¡La música de Queen vivirá por siempre !!!. El amor de los fans nunca dejará que desaparezca. …creo que se mantendrá igual dentro de 10 años…excepcional y con mucho ingenio.

QFCM: ¿Qué viene a tu mente cuando se mencionan las siguientes palabras?:

*música : sentimientos profundos

*internet : una magnífica herramienta para compartir la música a todo el mundo

*voz : Freddie Mercury

*disco : una sensación especial al grabar con el grupo por primera vez

*grupo : una segunda famila

*creación : algo que emana del interior

*respeto : es bueno a veces

*proyecto : reto

*amigos: alguien cercano en quien puedes confiar

*imprevistos : algo que de ser posible, hay que resolver

*estadio : me gustaría estar en uno viendo tocar a Queen en vivo...

*instrumentos : piano, guitarra, bajo, batería...¡un grupo!

*ética : formación

*ensayo : importante para tocar en vivo

*libertad : fundamental para la vida

QFCM: ¿Nos puedes platicar sobre tu primera presentación y quienes fueron los primeros en saberlo?

LH: Mi primera presentación fue en la Convención de Queen de la República Checa en Praga en 2009. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH7pR-5i8eg / www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs-wvZYQKXY ). Toqué covers a temas de Queen como "Goin’ Back", "Nevermore" y mi propia composición dedicada a Freddie, "Evermore". Un año después toqué en el Freddie Mercury's Memorial Day in Montreux .

QFCM: ¿Cómo decides qué temas interpretar?,¿en qué te basas?

LH: Mi idea es interpretar “Evermore” un tema que compuse especiamente para Freddie en eventos en su honor. En Montreux interpreté "Tavaszi Szél" , canción húngara tradicional que el propio Queen tocó en Budapest en 1986. Quería preparar algo especial para este evento. Y lo fue aún más porque Tibor Tóth cantó conmigo (un líder del Club de fans de Queen en Hungría, e integrante de Queen Unplugged Project :-)

QFCM: ¿Cón qué frecuencia ensayas?

LH: Antes de mi presentación como solista (en Montreux) ensayé mucho. Como grupo Lucie & The Diamonds , solo hemos ensayado una vez…fue el verano pasado , durante 14 días. Somos de diferentes países de Europa por lo que nos resulta prácticamente imposible tocar juntos con mayor frecuencia.

QFCM: Han colaborado con otro músico ?

LH: En mi caso la primera fue con Tibor Tóth al intepretar juntos "Tavaszi Szél" en Montreux en 2010. La segunda la haremos como grupo, Lucie and The Diamonds. Planemos una colaboración con Patrick Galella del grupo italiano tributo Dragon Attack.

QFCM: ¿Cuál es tu objetivo como intérprete de Queen?

LH: Dar lo mejor de mí al interpretar covers de Queen y compartirlos con los fans del Queen en todo el mundo. Tocar en vivo con Lucie & The Diamonds.

QFCM: ¿Y tus expectativas?

LH: Nunca se sabe qué pasará...Me gustaría que pudiéramos continuar con nuestra música, hacer más covers de Queen , así como nuestros propios temas. Disfrutar la felicidad que todo ellos nos da...Volver a reunirme con mis diamantes otra vez :-)))

Mi gran sueño aún por cumplirse sería que Brian ó Roger algún día vieran nuestros covers :-)

QFCM: ¿Piensan seguir tocando temas de Queen en el 2012?

LH: . ¡¡¡Por supuesto !!!

QFCM : ¿Tienes algún proyecto en mente para el año entrante?

LH: Como Lucie & The Diamonds hacer un cover al tema de John Lennon "Imagine". Y nuestra colaboración con Patrick Galella (vocalista del grupo tributo italiano Dragon Attack).

QFCM ¿Cuáles son los 10 discos que tú llevarías contigo a una isla desierta?

LH: Llevaría CD’s de Queen y de Norah Jones.

QFCM: ¿Un mensaje a los fans de Queen?

LH: Tal vez no nos conocemos personalmente y vivimos muy lejos uno de otros, pero nos mantenemos “en contacto” y “unidos” gracias a la música de Queen. ¡¡¡Queen reinará por siempre!!!

QFCM (Queen Fan Club Mexico): How did you start into music?, what do you play?, why did you choose your instrument?

LH (Lucie Halamíková): I started to play piano when I was 7 years old. I went to a music school and was a lucky child because I had the best teacher I could have !!! It influenced my relation to music and piano very much.

I chose piano maybe because my Grandmother used to have one really old piano at home upstairs.I liked to play some melodies everytime I visited her.

QFCM: What are your main influences?

LH: Queen, Norah Jones and classical music (Grieg, Chopin).

QFCM: What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when listening to the Word “Queen”?

LH: Freddie...and the best music of all ages :-)

QFCM: How and when did you first know about Queen?

LH: It was in 1988 when I was 12 years old. I saw their concert "Live In Budapest" on TV.

QFCM: What do you admire the most about Queen and why?

LH: Four great personalities, four great unique musicians, Freddie’s voice, Brian’s guitar, perfectionism. Together...it makes the unique connection !!!

QFCM: What’s the Queen record you like the most?

LH: Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera.

QFCM: Do you have a dearest Queen song?, which one?

LH: Lots of.....can’t write just one :-) Is This The World We Created, Princess Of The Universe, In My Defence (Freddie’s solo song)....

QFCM: As a musician , what’s the most complicated Queen song and why ?

LH: Probably Bohemian Rhapsody - because of all those opera vocals !!! If I should answer which song was the most complicated for me to play on piano...it was Mustapha.

QFCM: What’s your favourite concert?

LH: Live At The Bowl (1982).

QFCM: And video?

LH: The same...Live At The Bowl.

QFCM: Which Queen book do you find the most amazing and why?

LH: "Mercury and me" by Jim Hutton - very personal book written with love :-)

QFCM: What inspired you to play Queen covers and when did you start doing it?

LH: Queen - because I loved this music and was my favourite. I did my first Queen cover two years ago and it was because of some web competition.

QFCM: What do you think of Freddie Mercury?

LH: So many things in my mind that I definitely can’t write all of them here !!! The best singer with unbelievable power of his voice. Showman. Unique composer. Very interesting and uncommon person I would like to meet :-) Shy and kind man with heart full of love to his near friends and family.

QFCM: What’s his legacy to music in your opinion?

LH: To make music with our hearts and feelings. Without this music is "empty"...

QFCM: Which song would you have loved playing with him?, and with Queen?

LH: "Mother Love" - with Freddie. "Evermore" (the song our group Lucie & The Diamonds dedicated to Freddie) with Queen.

QFCM: What’s John, Roger and Brian’s legacy to music?

LH: To do the best for every song, to do their maximum.

QFCM: What makes Queen different to other groups from the musical point of view?

LH: Sound and great songs, unique personalities.

QFCM: Which are your favourite Queen tribute bands?

LH: Lucie & The Diamonds :-))))))))))) No, joking....but this group : Dios Salve a la Reina.

QFCM: Which is the best Queen song covered?

LH: (I don´t know if you mean song I or our group covered, or covered by anybody else...) If our cover so I would say : Bohemian Rhapsody and My Melancholy Blues. I admire covers made by Marc Martel - a winner singer of Queen Extravaganza :-)))

QFCM: In case you’ve not played it yet , which Queen song you’ve dreamt of playing?

LH: In My Defence (Freddie’s solo song).

QFCM: What would you have told Freddie if you had met him?

LH: "Freddie, I was lucky to meet your sister Kash. She is a very kind and dear person. Her face resembles yours so much… " :-)

QFCM: If you could meet Brian, Roger and John, what would you tell them?

LH: "John, please, can you join Brian and Roger for a gig, please, just once? We want to see you and hear you play....!!!"

" Brian and Roger, please, can you listen to our song "Evermore", dedicated to Freddie? " :-)))

QFCM: If you could see Queen live, what would be your dream set list ?

LH: I would like to listen to songs from The Miracle, Innuendo and Made In Heaven albums. As for other songs - I would love to hear Princess Of The Universe live.

QFCM: What Queen stuff would you like to be released?

LH: All not released Freddie’s and Queen’s tracks !!!

QFCM: Why do you thing Queen’s so popular nowadays?

LH: Their music is so good that people still love it. Queen’s music lives beyond time.

QFCM: In your opinion what will Queen music be like in 10 years time?

LH: Queen music will live forever !!! Fans love and admiration will never let it disappear.. I think it will be almost the same in 10 years future ....ingenious and unique.

QFCM: What comes to your mind when listening to these words? :

* music : strong feelings

* internet : great way to share music worldwide

* voice : Freddie Mercury

* record : special feelings when recording together with our group for first time

* group : second family

* creation : something from inside

* respect : sometimes good to have

* project : challenge

* friends : someone close you can rely on

* unexpected problems : should be solved if possible

* stadium : would like to be there and see Queen concert live...

* instruments : piano, guitar, bass, drums.......group!

* ethics : upbringing

* rehearsal : important for to play live

* freedom : important for life

QFCM: Can you tell us about your fist gig? , and who were the first to know?

LH: My first gig was on the Czech Queen Convention in 2009 in Prague. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH7pR-5i8eg / www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs-wvZYQKXY ). I played piano covers of Queen songs "Goin’Back", "Nevermore" and own song dedicated to Freddie "Evermore". One year later I played on Freddie Mercury’s Memorial Day in Montreux in 2010.

QFCM: How do you choose which songs to play?, what do you base on?

LH: As events of remembering Freddie I wanted to play special song "Evermore" dedicated to him. In Montreux I included song "Tavaszi Szél" - a Hungarian traditional song Queen played in Budapest 1986. I wanted to prepare something special for this event. It was even more special when Tibor Tóth (a leader of the Hungarian Queen FC and member of Queen Unplugged Project) sang with me :-)

QFCM: How often do you rehearse?

LH: Before my solo gig I rehearse a lot. With our group Lucie & The Diamonds we’ve rehearsed just once.....last Summer for 14 days. We are from different parts of Europe and so it’s really impossible for us to play together more often.

QFCM: Have you (and / or LATD) collaborated with anyone?

LH: My first collaboration was with Tibor Tóth when singing "Tavaszi Szél" together in Montreux in 2010. The second collaboration will be with our group. We are looking forward to collaborating with Patrick Galella from the Italian Queen tribute band Dragon Attack.

QFCM: What’s your aim as a Queen performer?

LH: To do my best when making Queen covers and to share with other Queen fans worldwide. To play live with our group.

QFCM: And your expectations?

LH: Never know what will come...I would like to continue with music, to make more Queen covers and own original songs with our group. To enjoy all that happiness it brings to us...To meet my diamonds again :-)))

My big dream would come true if Brian or Roger would watch our covers one day :-)

QFCM: Are you willing to keep on playing Queen songs in 2012 ?

LH: Definitely !!!

QFCM: Do you have in mind any special project for the next year?

LH: With L&TD - to make a cover of John Lennon’s song "Imagine". And our collaboration with Patrick Galella (a singer from the Italian Queen tribute band Dragon Attack).

QFCM: Which are the 10 records you’d take to a desert island (any groups/singers)?

LH: I would take Queen and Norah Jones CDs.

QFCM: Would you like to send a message to the Queen fans?

LH: We may don’t know each other personally, we may live far from each other but we are "close" and "familiar" thanks to Queen music. Queen will reign forever !!!
